Do you have what it takes to make a real difference?

Teach For Australia is an innovative, not for profit organisation working to confront educational disadvantage in Australia. We do it by transforming outstanding graduates like you into inspirational teachers and leaders.

We have a vision of Australia where all children have excellent education opportunities.

You can be a part of this by teaching for two years in a disadvantaged school where your energy, enthusiasm and drive can help positively impact the lives of your students and their communities.

Whatever your long-term career goals, the Teach For Australia program will enhance your future possibilities by developing skills that are directly transferrable to careers in all sectors.

You’ll also become part of an ongoing movement that will make a positive and lasting impact on Australian society.

Wadjularbinna Foundation Information Sessions

The Wadjularbinna Foundation invites you to attend an Information Session next week in Manning Clark (MCC T4).There will be two events; *Monday 8th March, 5-6pm* and *Thursday 11th March, 1-2pm.*

The sessions will provide information on:
- The Foundation's history and projects for 2010
- How to get involved with the Foundation

It will also be an opportunity to meet and talk with existing volunteers and 6 students from Doomadgee currently studying in Canberra under one of the Foundation's programs.

This is a fantastic way to learn about Indigenous culture, make friends and help promote educational opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Aurora Internships

The application period for the Winter 2010 round of internships is from now until Friday, 1 April. To be eligible, students will usually have to have completed the course 'LAWS2204 Property'.

As before, we will interview the short-listed applicants and make recommendations for placements. Last semester five of eight short-listed ANU students were placed in organisations working in indigenous law and policy.

ANU Community Legal Education Project

The ANU Community Legal Education Project, which begins for the first time this Semester, will involve ANU law students:

- Identifying the need in the community for legal information in plain language
- Researching and designing effective ways of increasing people’s awareness of their legal rights and responsibilities
- Engaging with our local community to convey legal information in plain language
- Promoting knowledge and understanding about common legal issues, law reform campaigns and key changes in the law
- Gaining a greater understanding of how the law and justice system works in the ACT

Students interested in being involved in this Project are highly encouraged to attend the Skills and Orientation Workshop, which is being held this Saturday coming at the ANU College of Law in Sparke Helmore Theatre 1 from 11 am to 4 pm. Lunch will be provided.

At the Skills and Orientation Workshop students will work with members of the ACT Legal Profession and ANU Staff to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective Community Legal Education to the local community.

In the weeks following the Workshop students will:

1. Begin building relationships with local schools and the community
2. Determine what the need is for legal information in schools and the community
3. Respond to the need for legal information using different approaches such as lessons, group discussions, role play, debate, posters or booklets. The approach used will be up to you!

The Project will come to an end in Week 10 and will be running again in Semester 2.
