President's Welcome
Dearest Members,
Welcome to 2012!
Congratulations to Alice Crawford and her team of 2011 for an exceptionally well-run year.
The LSS has big plans for 2012. We are going to continue to provide you with the best social events on campus, a voice to faculty on assessment and curriculum, dedicated preparation for your entry into the country’s most exciting legal jobs and the best educational support to help success in your exams.
What does the 2012 committee have in store for you?
In a joint initiative with ANUSA, we are introducing the inaugural First Year Law Camp designed to welcome all of our first years into law school in an informative, and incredibly fun, way. Students will go away for the weekend to socialise, meet new friends, play games and discuss what the next few years have in store for them. Tickets will sell incredibly fast and there are limited spaces so get in early. We’re hosting Law Ball at Parliament again – don’t miss out!
This year, we’re getting serious about winning national competitions. We plan to take down our competitors at the ALSA Conference in July in Melbourne. We need YOU to compete and show Australia what the ANU has got to offer. We will be holding our competitions launch in March (watch out for our Competitions Guide) and working hard together as a team until D-Day arrives. Sign up!!!
We’re beefing up our past-exams database. Bigger budget, bigger selection, bigger emphasis. Proud of an exam you’ve done? Send us an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with what you propose, and we'll get back to you. Its anonymous and a great way to make a quick buck. Our aim is to have at least two for each subject at the College of Law so that all our students have a benchmark from which to work. Check it out throughout the year, you won’t be disappointed.
Nervous about making the transition from University to full-time employment? The LSS is committed to preparing you for this by showing you the diversity of options you have, introducing you to the human resource team of your dream job and giving out handy hints on the application process. Come to the ANU Careers Fair in March and check out our Careers Guide once released on March 8. Keep an eye open for the incredibly helpful release of our Clerkship Guide and Clerkship Evening in May.
Above all, we want you to know that we’re your society. We’re not exclusive and we always need your input. So get involved, and don’t hesitate to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Best of luck for the year, it’s going to be a cracker!
